About Bricks & Minifigs Kalamazoo

Fans, builders, collectors and traders unite, because we proudly serve a large LEGO® fan-base throughout the states of Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin, Canada and beyond! Offering our customers a centrally-located place to trade their gently-used and new LEGO® products on a large scale, our retail location in the Oakwood Plaza shopping center maintains an ever-changing inventory of interesting treasures and a vast encyclopedia of LEGO® expertise for every visitor during every visit.

Owners Adam and Allison were proud to introduce west Michigan to the Bricks & Minifigs brand in the summer of 2022. Since that time, they have independently owned and operated their Kalamazoo storefront and maintained a regular personal presence there, getting to know their customers and their community. Both surprised and overjoyed by the warm welcome that they have been shown and their resulting popularity, the owners have tried to give back by placing a strong focus on philanthropy, community and promoting STEAM education.

Local residents of the metro Kalamazoo area, Adam and Allison can both say that they enjoyed the magic of creative LEGO® play as children; but it was Adam’s renewed interest as an adult – particularly during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic – that planted the seed that ultimately grew into our Kalamazoo Bricks & Minifigs location. You will find LEGO® products in their home for functional, as well as whimsical/decorative purposes, in just about every room. Along with Allison, their two children are becoming well-versed in all of the LEGO® lingo, and you will often see the kids and/or either of the family’s two doodles (dogs) in the store.

Meet the Team

Ownership / Management Team

Adam

Adam

Owner

“I am a master builder… as long as I have the instructions.”

Adam, a Kalamazoo native and LEGO®-lover for life, is thrilled by the warm reception that the locality has given to Bricks & Minifigs Kalamazoo since its opening in June of 2022. Before focusing his attention on opening and operating the store, Adam served as the Executive Director of the Farmers Alley Theatre, a professional playhouse in downtown Kalamazoo that he founded with three others in 2008. Now assuming a new leadership role in another organization, Adam loves the close relationships that he has formed with each member of his staff and many of his customers. He especially enjoys sharing his passion for LEGO® with others who feel the same. He can’t wait to see what the future has in store for the LEGO® Group, Bricks & Minifigs Kalamazoo and the community!

Allison

Allison

Owner

“I love seeing peoples reactions just after they walk in and realize what we’re about.”

A fan of LEGO® architecture since childhood, Allison began as the store’s interior designer, unsure of how her role might change; but her involvement in regular daily operations became the norm. She often works from home, but is in the store her fair share as well, managing a large portion of the marketing, events, outreach and facilities for the business. With a background in law, the shift into retail management was a big one, and her LEGO® knowledge is growing constantly; but she’s surprised on a daily basis by how much she enjoys working with customers, the store’s awesome team, and alongside her husband of 12 years. She often looks around and has no idea how she ended up here; but she’s having a lot of fun and wouldn’t trade it in for most anything.

Speciality: Creating a beautiful, fun LEGO® experience & safe space for everyone who passes through our doorway

Johnny

Johnny

General Manager

Johnny seems to have found his life calling as our General Manager at Bricks & Minifigs Kalamazoo. His love for LEGO® started during childhood and his passion has multiplied exponentially over the years. His vast knowledge of the LEGO® Group history and product line, as well as his skillset as a master builder and his years of managerial experience, make him uniquely qualified to lead our team at Bricks & Minifigs Kalamazoo. Johnny can help you find the piece you’ve been hunting for, answer your questions about a set from childhood, or give you a qualified value assessment during an in-store buy or trade. He’s really outstanding when it comes to working with kids of all ages, too; and on his days off, he enjoys spending time at home with his family.

Favorite thing about working at BAM: I love the people. The customers, employees, even the owners; they’re all my kinda people.

Monica

Monica

Party & Events Manager

Monica serves as our Party & Events Manager, doing whatever is needed to ensure that guests have a top notch experience, every time. A busy mom of 3, she is no stranger to LEGO®, or the need for serious organization and planning. Her creativity and keen eye for detail help her to dot every “i” and cross every ‘t,’ and her kind nature and warm smile make her an absolute child magnet. Monica was a recent and very welcome addition to the Bricks & Minifigs Kalamazoo team and we look forward to having her with us for a long time to come. When she’s not working, Monica enjoys spending time with her family and youth sports.

Favorite thing about working at BAM: Seeing the kids’ excitement the first time they come to the store.

BRYAN

BRYAN

Assistant Manager

A LEGO® enthusiast from a young age, Bryan is considered to be one of our in-house Star Wars specialists, with an impressive – practically encyclopedic – knowledge across all themes that LEGO® has to offer. When he’s not at the store or taking classes, Bryan likes to fish, practice his guitar and play D & D with friends.

Favorite thing about working at BAM: I love getting to talk with people who share the same passion for LEGO® that I do.
