1. Party Theme

There are many ways to throw a LEGO® inspired birthday party or other type of party—but it all starts with finding a theme.

  • Plants: For a laid-back and chill night, guests can complete a LEGO® plant set like the succulents, flower arrangements, or bonsai tree.
  • Super Mario: Get Mario themed sets and work together to create the world.
  • Harry Potter: Split up into teams to build the Hogwarts set or smaller sets while you play the movies in the background.
  • Lord of the Rings: Guests can build the massive Rivendell set and binge watch at the same time.
  • Star Wars™: Star Wars™ is a crowd favorite and there are literally hundreds of sets out there to choose from.
  • Random Build: Give everyone a bin of random LEGO® pieces and see what they can come up with.
  • Specific Color: If it’s someone’s birthday and their favorite color is blue, have only blue bricks to build and decorate with and see what people can come up with.
  • Holiday Party: Many LEGO® sets have holiday themes and would be the perfect piece for your party.

If you’re not sure about which theme to go with, visit the Bricks & Minifigs website or find a LEGO® retailer and see what sparks your imagination.

2. Invitations & Decorations

Once you have a theme for your LEGO® themed birthday party or other LEGO® themed event, you can get creative with the before-party prep. Start with fun, colorful, and unique invites. Use LEGO® images to show your guests what the party will be all about.

You could even DIY and create 3D LEGO® invites with bricks glued onto cards or include a custom minifigure in the invite.

When it’s time to decorate, use LEGO®, of course. LEGO® centerpieces and tableware will make the theme more immersive. Take it the extra mile and use plain yellow cups and draw LEGO® faces on them to make them more fun.

3. Activities & Games

Obviously you want to have some LEGO® building at a LEGO® party, but there are some ways to switch things up and keep your guests entertained.

  • Free-Build Time: Let everyone build whatever they want, with or without instructions.
  • Speed Building: Give everyone a similar set and see who can complete it the quickest.
  • Scavenger Hunt: Hide LEGO® pieces or builds around the house and see who can find all of the items first.
  • Custom Minifigure Station: Let everyone dig into loose pieces and build their own minifigure. Give out awards to the best ones.
  • Team Competitions: Split into teams and try to complete bigger builds before your opponents do.
  • Individual Competition: Give contestants a category like “animal” and then vote on who built the best animal in the allotted time.
  • Guess the Build: Have one person quickly start building while others try and guess what they’re building. First one right wins points!

If your group isn’t into structured activities, that’s totally fine. Let everyone mingle, relax, and build at their own pace.

4. Food & Drinks

Take your LEGO® party to the next level with LEGO® inspired snacks.

  • Use a mold and make a cake or gelatin dessert that looks like a LEGO® brick.
  • Use brick-shaped candies to adorn other treats.
  • Add some colorful icing and strategically placed M&Ms to crispy rice treats and they’ll look like a perfect LEGO® bite.
  • Cut fruit into squares and rectangles and assemble it to look like a popular build.
  • Keep the drinks as colorful as the bricks by using food-safe coloring drops.

5. Favors & Take-Home Gifts

Party favors are a staple of kids parties, but we’re sure adults would also love a simple party favor to remember a great get-together. When the party is wrapping up and guests are heading home, hand out party favors.

These could be:

  • Mini LEGO® sets
  • DIY kits you created with blocks and your own instructions
  • Custom minifigures representing each individual guest or whoever the party was celebrating

6. Clean-Up Tips

When the party is over, there still is some work to do. To start, you need to protect and display those new LEGO® builds! Take sets created at the party and put them up on shelves or in display cases where they’ll become fun decor in your home.

If you have loose bricks, organize them into colors and store them safely away in closed containers where they won’t spill easily or get lost. Try to keep all bricks that belong to a set together so you can complete a build in the future.
